Born in Britain to Caribbean/European heritage, HAUI is an award-winning mixed-media artist who directs, devises and designs cross-disciplinary works for stage, screen and visual mediums. Known for rejecting categorizations, HAUI amplifies overlooked themes, myths, histories and perspectives through an unconventional, diverse lens. HAUI has worked for leading arts organizations in Canada and internationally including Stratford Festival, CBC and more. Career highlights include directing his feature-debut MIXEDUP produced by Jack Fox Media in association with the world's first and leading LGBTQ+ TV channel and streaming service OUTtv; devising PRIVATE FLOWERS featuring Rodney Diverlus and Jera Wolfe produced by Toronto History Museums; and designing the world premiere of Edith Wharton’s SHADOW OF A DOUBT, directed by Peter Hinton-Davis produced by the Shaw Festival. Upcoming HAUI will have his poetry published as part of an anthology of Black artists entitled FREEDOM: A MIXTAPE published by Playwrights Canada Press. Haui will also exhibit his artwork at Wildseed Centre for Arts and Activism for Black History Month. Finally this summer HAUI will direct his libretto, APORTIA CHRYPTYCH: A BLACK OPERA FOR WHITE (by HAUI and Sean Mayes), produced at the Canadian Opera Company. haui.ca
