Lyn-Marie

Lyn-Marie was born and raised in the beautiful island of Barbados. She came to Canada as an international student in 2008 and completed her Bachelor’s and Master's degrees at the University of Guelph in Hispanic Studies and Leadership respectively.  Lyn is currently a certified strengths coach and higher education professional in Toronto who is passionate about leadership and community. She uses her skills to help build community and equitable spaces for students from equity-deserving backgrounds to feel seen, welcomed and as though they belong. She believes in challenging the status quo and asking the ‘tough’ questions which challenge the systems or processes that do not uplift the equity-deserving student experience. In 2021, she was recognized with a university-wide award for her leadership and service to international students through an academic year that was defined by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lyn is an avid traveller. Her deep love for travel has cultivated a genuine sense of curiosity to explore new countries, communities and cultures. Next up on her travel wishlist is Ghana! Not just for its culture, cuisine and beauty, but for the deep history of the country and its connection to her roots in Barbados.
